An insider at Elle Magazine is claiming that Lindsay Lohan walked off with over $45,000 worth of jewelry after a UK photo shoot with the mag last month.

According to the source,

She kept going on about the jewels, asking if she could have them. We all thought she was joking.

They realized that Lindsay was not joking after she left, and the jewelers found that several pieces were unaccounted for.

Elle editors reportedly spent the past two weeks trying to get in touch with Lindsay, who has been coincidentally not answering her phone. The British police have now taken over the case.

Update: TMZ is reporting that the total for the missing jewels is now up to $500,000.  They’re reporting that Lindsay is indeed being investigated for the theft, but that there are other suspects being sought out as well.
