Karina Smirnoff’s rep confirmed today that the Dancing With The Stars dancer and her co-star and fiance Maksim Chmerkovskiy have broken off their engagement.

The couple, who began dating in 2008, got engaged on New Year’s eve after about six months together. They were spotted holding hands and kissing at The Highlands just last week. Karina and Maksim will still appear together on the next season of DWTS, which premieres on Sept. 21.
