Kate Winslet Wins Libel Suit
Kate Winslet has just raked in £25,000 from the UK’s Daily Mail for an offensive article that the publication wrote about her in January.
The article, titled “Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world’s most irritating actress?”, criticized Kate’s weight, and questioned whether or not she actually exercised as much as she claimed. To illustrate the point, the article included some naked photos of Kate from various films. After Kate initially complained about the piece, the newspaper published an apology, and agreed to pay her damages. Kate released a statement responding to the settlement, saying,
I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me.
I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise.
I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy.
