Pete Doherty told NME yesterday that last year, when his reps announced that he had been hospitalized for a minor bout of exhaustion, he was really on life support because his heart had stopped beating.

The Babyshambles frontman and recovering drug addict admitted that he technically died after coming in contact with some sort of poison. He was put on life support and rushed to the hospital, where doctors were able to resuscitate him. He claimed that he didn’t remember what exactly caused the heart failure. He said,

What happened? Well, I don’t know, I don’t remember. At the time I thought I was a taxi driver offering to take everyone to Elephant And Castle. I was running into the walls, making steering wheel signs with my hands. And then I just stopped. My body just stopped.

Pete insisted that the incident was not caused by illegal drugs.
