According to a new report, Alexa Ray Joel’s suicide attempt wasn’t over an argument with her boyfriend as previously reported, but was actually the result of a number of blowout fights with her mother Christie Brinkley.

Alexa’s suicide attempt came shortly after her return from a nine-day vacation in the Turks and Caicos with Christie, and her half siblings Sailor and Jack. Sources say that Alexa spent the whole trip listening to her mother’s constant criticism of her father, Billy Joel. Christie’s comments about Alexa’s weight were also supposedly factors that helped to push her over the edge.

When interviewed by police, Christie claimed that she had no idea what could have caused Alexa to attempt suicide. Alexa is now doing well and recovering under the supervision of her father.
