Mike Tyson has signed a deal with Animal Planet to star in a show about pigeon racing. Apparently, Mike has been breeding pigeons and other birds on the rooftops of NYC ever since he was a little kid (who knew?), and this new show will chronicle his first experiences racing his beloved animals. Mike said of the project yesterday,

I’m honored to be a part of this monumental show on Animal Planet. I feel a great pride acting as an official representative for all the pigeon fancier’s out there. I want people to see why we love these birds. It feels good returning to the rooftops of the city where it all started for me - New York.

The new show will be called Taking on Tyson and will premiere on Animal Planet in early 2011.

An Australian environmental agency slammed Taylor Swift, after she announced on her Twitter the other day that she was feeding possums in a park in Melbourne.

Australia’s Department of Sustainability and Environment released the following statement yesterday, advising people against following Taylor’s lead:

We know people who feed wild animals often have the best intentions and that it is attractive to tourists who want to interact with Australian wildlife.

However, DSE advises people not to feed wild animals… it can disrupt their natural behaviour and it can cause some animals to lose their natural fear of people, making them vulnerable to attack.

PETA is reportedly pressuring Arizona police to take two giraffes formerly owned by Michael Jackson away from their new owners, after learning that two other giraffes living with them had recently died from improper care.

The giraffes were rescued from Neverland Ranch by a couple of men named Tom and Freddie Hancock, and Voices of the Wild Foundation and Banjoko Wildlife Preserve in 2007. They were originally housed on Page, Arizona city property, but were evicted shortly after being moved.

PETA is now urging Arizona Police Chief Charlie Dennis to open an investigation on the situation. They’ve also offered to help find new homes for the long-necked creatures, and to hire professionals to move them.

Former Desperate Housewives actress, Nicollette Sheridan was hospitalized recently after falling from a horse near her San Fernando Valley home.

The actress was reportedly riding her horse bareback in the rain without a riding helmet when she was bucked off the animal. Her husband rushed her to the hospital, where she was treated for a head wound and tested for possible internal injuries. She is now recovering at home.

Dominique Swain (who most notably played a child slut) and her dad reportedly abandoned a box full of cocker spaniel puppies at a Malibu animal shelter the other day.

According to sources, the eight week old puppies were born to her dog who she failed to have spayed. Dominique reportedly appeared strung out and refused to make a donation to pay for the dogs’ vaccinations. She was spotted driving off with daddy in her BMW after abandoning the pups.

PETA is apparently not so happy about Paris Hilton’s newest pet - a pig which she named Princess Piglette. In fact, they really don’t like any of her pets at all.

A PETA spokesperson released a statement yesterday, blasting Paris for extensive pet collection. The spokesperson said,

The Chihuahuas, ferrets, and kinkajous she’s paraded through her home in the past were not accessories, and pot-bellied pigs aren’t either.

The statement also called Paris’ personal zoo a “wretched example” for her young impressionable fans.

This here is Scooby-Roo, a 6-month-old 2-legged dog who was recently found dumped under a car. Apparently, Michael Jackson’s kids Prince and Paris saw the dog on TV, and wanted to help raise the $2,000 necessary to get Scooby-Roo a cart to help him walk.

Paris Twittered about the pig, which she picked out from a breeder in Oregon earlier today. Paris named the new addition Miss Pigelette, and she will be hand delivered by the breeders, Patty’s Royal Dandie in the near future.

We have no idea what Paris intends to do with the swine once it is in her possession.

Life & Style was maybe a little short on story ideas.  This week’s issue included an article profiling the house that Paris Hilton’s pampered pooches call home. For whatever reason, we actually found it kind of interesting.

Paris’ dog house is a 300 sq. ft Pepto-Bismol-colored replica of her own Beverly Hills digs. The $325,000 crib, which is located in Paris’ backyard, was designed by interior decorator, Faye Resnick, and somehow, Paris’ friends don’t make fun of her for it. According to her,

I designed it with the help of my interior decorator, Faye Resnick. I wanted it to be fun, cute, comfortable and beautiful. My friends just love it and think it’s so adorable and cool.

The house has two floors, a closet, and even central air.
