Bruce Springsteen has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the owners of a New York bar for hiring a band to play some of his songs without his permission.
According to the suit, Connolly’s Pub & Restaurant charged customers a fee to watch the band perform three of his songs during a concert over the summer. He claimed that they did not however, pay a licensing fee to the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), as required by the law.
No word yet on how much Bruce is suing them for.
Update: Bruce has just removed his name from ASCAP’s suit, and released a statement through his publicists, saying,
ASCAP was solely responsible for naming Bruce Springsteen as a plaintiff in the lawsuit. Bruce Springsteen had no knowledge of this lawsuit, was not asked if he would participate as a named plaintiff and would not have agreed to do so if he had been asked.
Upon learning of this lawsuit… Bruce Springsteen’s representatives demanded the immediate removal of his name from the lawsuit.
