Artie Lange’s reps have just confirmed that the comedian’s hospitalization last week was due to attempted suicide.
Artie’s mother reportedly called 911 after she found him with nine self-inflicted stab wounds at his home on Saturday morning. She was stopping by the house to drop off some food at the time.
Despite massive bleeding from the six minor cuts and three deep plunges, doctors were able to save Artie. He is now recovering from his injuries.
Artie Lange was rushed to a New Jersey hospital earlier today after being absent from The Howard Stern Show for several weeks.
Artie’s rep confirmed the hospitalization, but refused to give any details on the reason for his stay. According to him, “Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor”.
Artie Lange pleaded guilty to one count of DUI in a NJ court recently, for the July incident where he was pulled over for driving under the influence of sleeping pills.
He received a $664 fine, and had his license revoked for seven months. He’s also required to spend 12 hours in DUI classes. According to Artie’s lawyer, his client pleaded guilty to avoid the media circus that would have surrounded a trial.
Artie Lange pleaded not guilty to DUI in court yesterday. Howard Stern’s large friend with the admitted drinking problem was arrested late last week after crashing his car into another vehicle in Toms River, NJ.
According to cops, the radio personality passed an alcohol screening test on site, but they figured that he was just lucky (or talented), and took a urine sample from him as well. No word yet on the results of that test.
Artie will be back in court for a hearing on Aug 26.
