Nicole Richie and Joel Madden officially launched their new $35,000 playground for kids in a low-income housing project in L.A. yesterday. The money for the playground was raised through the couple’s Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation.

Joel spoke about his family’s involvement with the foundation recently, saying,

It’s become just a very big part of our life. It’s something that we expect of ourselves and of our family… And I think it’s important that our kids grow up around something. Some families have a family business… We wanted to have a foundation that they’re responsible for, that they have to be a part of - that they’ll grow up with and it will just be something that they do, just like anything else that’s expected of them, because that’s what we do. That was the whole idea of it.

Joel Madden shot down those wedding reports on his blog today, saying,

I keep getting emails from old friends and family asking about a wedding. NO we didn’t get married.

Star Magazine first reported the rumor, claiming that Joel and Nicole Richie had tied the knot earlier this month in some mass wedding ceremony along with 45,000 other people around the world.

Rumor has it that Nicole Richie and Joel Madden tied the knot in a secret ceremony on Wednesday. The couple reportedly got their marriage license at some point last week.

Fueling the rumor is the fact that the couple’s new son Sparrow’s birth certificate lists his last name as Madden, as opposed to Richie-Madden - like his older sister Harlow.

Nicole Richie announced the birth of her very unfortunately named baby boy on her website today. She wrote,

In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009 Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden.

He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.

Somebody apparently tried to sell Joel Madden a tasty baby while he was stuck in traffic yesterday. For whatever reason, he turned the offer down flat. He wrote on his Twitter after the incident,

Today some people in traffic tried to sell me a baby. A live human baby. I didn’t know what to say. I said a little prayer for the kid. wow

It all happend so fast. I was trying to figure out if they were serious, and i think when my reaction was not a good one, they just took off

I mean look. Chances are they were joking. The scary part is i really couldn’t tell. Maybe i’m just one gullable fool

One of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s friends recently told In Touch Magazine that Joel was spotted purchasing blue paint for his new baby’s nursery.  Nicole also recently made several purchases involving blue baby toys from FAO Schwarz.

Using the evidence at hand, we’re concluding that the couple are expecting a baby boy.  The kid is reportedly due in August.

An employee with British Airways was reprimanded earlier today after Joel Madden made a Twitter bitchfest about being forced to cover his tattoos before a flight from Chicago to London early this morning.

Apparently there are no rules banning tattoos on flights. British Airways released a statement saying,

We don’t understand why the employee took it upon himself to enforce regulations that don’t exist.

Joel was said to be embarrassed by people “staring and laughing” at him during the incident.  No word yet on whether or not the employee of the year still has his job.

Several sources are coming out saying that Nicole Richie is expecting double the pleasure, double the fun.  She and Joel Madden are reportedly spawning twins this time around, and they’re due by the end of this year.  That Harlow’s totally going to get lost in the mix.

Nothing excites us more than bastard baby announcements, and the Madden/Richies have done made our day again. Joel Madden has revealed on his blog that his girlfriend Nicole Richie is pregnant with their second baby.  He writes,

What’s better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister! God has truly blessed my family. Hope your all feeling as good as i am right now…

Joel is clearly not the one who has to live with a creature in his stomach for 9 months, which will no doubt, eventually make its way out of the tiny opening in his vagina.  Congrats.

At least they didn’t turn the camera and do the all-annoying sideways video shot. We kid, we kid. It’s the thought that counts.

On her blog, Nicole talks about her recent visit to Beyond Shelter. She says,

This past year, philanthropy has opened my eyes to so much need and so much beauty. I have also realized how easy it is to help, and how rewarding it feels to be able to make a positive difference in someone’s life.

Last week, my friend Carlos and I brought a video camera to Beyond Shelter. Just the two of us. There are 175 children with families here, most of whom have been homeless at some point.

Today, they play in a concrete courtyard. Because of the neighborhood they live in, they have nowhere else to play. I met a woman who has ten children living in a three-bedroom house. The Beyond Shelter rec room only allows ten kids at a time. I wish you could all go there with me and see.
