Family, fans, and fellow musicians are now all struggling to cope with the aftermath of Michael Jackson’s death. They are doing everything from dealing with the custody of Michael’s children, to making plans to fill in Michael’s scheduled summer concert dates.
According to reports, Michael’s mother Katherine is preparing to take in the singer’s three children, Prince Michael, Paris, and Prince Michael II (Blanket). All three kids spent about an hour at the hospital visiting with their father after his death yesterday. The mother of Michael’s two oldest children, Debbie Rowe has given up custody, so she is not legally entitled to care for them. They are currently at their L.A. home, and are upset but doing well.
Justin Timberlake, who has referred to Michael in past interviews as his idol, is currently trying to rally other musicians together for a series of tribute concerts to fill in the O2 Arena gigs that Michael was scheduled to perform this summer. Madonna was set to make a surprise appearance at one of the original shows, and will quite possibly be included in the tribute plans.
Update: TMZ is now reporting that Debbie Rowe originally gave up her parental rights to Michael Jackson’s children, but a judge reversed the decision in 2005 because Debbie never submitted to a mandatory parental fitness investigation.
No official word yet on whether or not Debbie will demand custody, but sources say that she most likely will, since apparently there’s a lot of money in it for whoever takes in the kids. The custodial parent is entitled to pretty big child support check from Michael’s estate.
