Nas pleaded not guilty to contempt of court today, in his nasty divorce case against his wife Kelis.
The contempt motion was filed this morning by Kelis’ lawyer, after Nas refused to pay over $200,000 in child and spousal support.
Nas’ contempt hearing is scheduled for next month. He’ll face possible jail time if convicted.
Kelis and Nas faced off in court yesterday to continue fighting out their divorce.
The big loser of the day was Nas, who was ordered to pay $40,454 in spousal support, $10,647 in child support, and $46,022 in attorney’s fees.

Nas was reportedly busted and then cleared of a DUI charge near his Georgia home on September 10, and somehow we’re not hearing about it until now.
Nas admitted to officers that he had smoked weed before getting into his car to drive. He failed a field sobriety test, but strangely, was cleared of all charges when his drug test came back negative for all illegal substances.
In other Nas legal news, the rapper was in an L.A. courtroom today, facing off against his soon-to-be ex-wife Kelis on matters regarding their divorce and custody of their kid. The couple apparently aren’t fighting anymore, as they were spotted chatting and laughing together with their lawyers outside of the courthouse.
Nas filed legal papers in court yesterday, asking a judge to block his ex-wife Kelis from getting any of the $72,728 per month in spousal support that she asked for as part of their divorce.
The rapper also demanded joint custody of their 2-month-old son.
A federal tax lien was filed against Nas last month, for the amount of $2,584,206.31. Apparently the rapper failed to pay his 2006 and 2007 taxes.
Nas’ soon-to-be ex-wife Kelis is also currently battling him for child support and alimony. We’re pretty sure Uncle Sam gets first dibs.
Kelis has just scored a sweet settlement deal to go along with the birth of her very expensive son, Knight.
A judge granted the singer $55,000 per month in spousal and child support from her ex-husband Nas. Nas will also be required to pay the hospital bills from the baby’s birth, the salary for the kid’s nanny, and all of the boy’s prenatal expenses. Finally, he’ll also be on the hook for the mortgage on Kelis’ L.A. home, and $35,000 in legal fees for Kelis’ awesome lawyer who made this huge settlement possible.
Kelis reportedly finally gave birth to her new baby boy last night after almost three days of labor. Nas, who she originally kicked out of the room for being drunk two days ago, was finally let back in to see the baby right after he was born.
The ex couple named their new kid Knight Jones.
Kelis who reportedly went to the hospital to have her first baby with ex-husband Nas yesterday, gave workers strict rules to ban daddy from the delivery room.
Nas finally left at some point, and headed out to the Queensbridge projects in NY where he was scheduled to perform that night. He was spotted drinking champagne before the show where he announced the birth of his new son Knight.
Update: TMZ is reporting that Nas was just drunk and confused last night, and that Kelis is apparently still in labor now. The real story is that Nas was kept out of Kelis’ hospital room because he showed up completely hammered at 1 AM.
Even more exciting is that fact that Kelis reportedly doesn’t have health insurance, and is hoping to tack the hospital bill on Nas. No word yet on whether or not Nas is aware of that little detail.
Kelis is planning to irresponsibly skip out on her child support court hearing today to do something fun - like give birth to her baby with ex-husband Nas, or something like that.
Nas’ chances of avoiding some of Kelis ridiculous financial demands have just shot way up now that there is no way that Kelis will be making it to court to give her testimony.
Details on Kelis’ financial situation have been revealed, and it looks like she really does need Nas’ money to support her new baby.
According to court docs, Kelis’ income is a mere $21,616 per month, just barely enough to cover the $15,000 that she spends on entertainment, vacations and gifts monthly. Between that and her hefty mortgage, there just isn’t enough money to cover the baby’s nanny.
Since there is no way Kelis is selling some of her five homes and taking care of the baby herself, she’s demanding that Nas pay up. According to Kelis, Nas has been skirting all responsibility related to her and their baby since the divorce papers were filed.
Nas left his pregnant wife Kelis this past April after six years of marriage, and it looks like he hasn’t manned up and provided her with anything since the split.
Kelis has now reportedly filed legal papers, demanding that Nas pay for some of her reasonable expenses, including a $3,500 baby nurse and a $20,000 budget-friendly stroller and crib set. She’s also asking Nas to cover half of all the medical expenses, and additional child support for that damn thing that he implanted inside her stomach. According to Kelis,
I have run out of money. My survival is based on [Nas'] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.
She also has the option to go on welfare and begin shopping at that wonderful place called Walmart. Kelis is due to give birth to the evidence of her former relationship later this month.
Hip-hop duo Nas and Kelis, who are expecting their first baby in just a few months, have confirmed that they are getting a divorce.
Kelis reportedly filed the papers in court earlier today, and sent her spokesperson out to release the following statement:
I can confirm that she has filed for divorce. We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.
The pair met at the MTV VMAs in 2002, and were married in 2005. Kelis is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s future baby who is due at the end of the summer.
