Tim Bennett, the president of Oprah Winfrey’s company, Harpo sent a letter out to the staff of the Oprah Winfrey show today, announcing that next season would be their last.
Oprah will be making the public announcement live on her show tomorrow.
The last episode will air in September, 2011 - the 25th year anniversary for the show.
Oprah Winfrey made a few people angry when her show’s writers failed to do the proper research before they aired their “Women Around the World” interview with a skin care product developer from Dubai named Dr. Lamees Hamdan.
The show described Dubai as a country that provided free water, electricity, and health care to all of its citizens - which is not true. On top of all that, Dr. Hamdan chose to wear a tunic instead of a sheila (their national headdress). Dr. Hamdan then described the decision not to wear the sheila as a cultural choice, rather than a religious one, which enraged many Arab-world viewers.
Lastly, Oprah conducted the interview over Skype, which is banned in the UAE. The show was granted a waiver to the rule.
A spokesman for Oprah released a statement today, apologizing for the upset that they caused, saying,
It was never the intention of the ‘Oprah’ show to misrepresent the people of Dubai. Dr. Hamdan appeared live on our program to speak about her personal life experience as a citizen of Dubai. We apologize if any of our viewers were offended.
A woman named Corinne Gehris filed a lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey’s company Harpo last week, claiming that she was fired from her job as a flight attendant on Oprah’s private jet in July.
According to Corinne, two other flight attendants that she worked with (one of whom was Oprah’s bff Gayle King’s daughter), conspired against her, and told Oprah that she had been involved in “inappropriate intimate behavior” on a flight. Both she and a soon-to-be Chief Pilot were let go after the supposed incident.
Corinne is suing Oprah’s company Harpo, and the two flight attendants for more than $75,000 in damages.
Cops are currently examining a suspicious backpack that a security guard found in a flowerbed outside of Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions studio in Chicago early this morning. The backpack reportedly had wires hanging out of it.
No one was hurt and the studio was not evacuated. Investigators are now working to figure out where the package came from.
In case you hadn’t already heard, Oprah joined Twitter today, but apparently, she’s still getting the hang of this whole technology thing. Luckily, Shaq was avail to give her some tips.
Chris Brown may have had the upper hand when he beat Rihanna in his car last month, but Rihanna has since stepped up with her own set of demands for her abusive boyfriend.
Rihanna is reportedly pushing Chris to attend a taping of The Oprah Winfrey show with her, and publicly apologize to her on the air.
No word yet on a date for Chris’ televised berating, but we can’t wait to see it.
It’s such a slow news day that apparently Oprah Winfrey’s new dog is getting the headlines.
The talk show host has adopted an 8-week-old cocker spaniel puppy from PAWS Chicago animal shelter to replace her two cocker spaniels, Sophie and Solomon that died last year. Oprah used to also have two golden retrievers, but now she only has one. One of them died two years ago after chocking on a plastic ball.
No word yet on the name of this new little guy who will undoubtedly live a long and prosperous life.
Justin Timberlake rides the Obama magic school bus all the way to Oprah’s place to profess his undying love for the new president.
Is Oprah the original Amy Winehouse? Some dude named Randolph Cook says so. Randolph claims he dated O back in 1985, and that Oprah experimented with drugs with him, eventually smoking crack up to a few times a week. Randolph says,
We smoked at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes we would smoke up until her limo was waiting to take her to the studio to perform her show…
Apparently, in 1995, Oprah even admitted on her show to doing some drug in the 80s, though she never came out to say what the drug was. In the episode, she said,
In my 20’s, I’d done this drug and I know exactly what you are talking about…It’s my life’s great big secret. It was such a secret because–I realize (with) the public person I have become–if the story ever were revealed, the tabloids would exploit it and what a big issue it would be.
Randolph is apparently coming out with the story because he is angry that Oprah ended up all famous, while he was stuck with an addiction, which he blames her for. Both Oprah and Randolph accuse each other of introducing the other to the drug.

Don’t believe anything you hear this week, but Page Six is reporting that Oprah Winfrey has been scoping out properties in Washington DC in an attempt to move closer to Barack Obama.
She’s apparently been getting the details on a 9-bedroom, $50 million mansion in Georgetown.

Big news today. Oprah Winfrey admits she’s so fat, she doesn’t think she can fit into the dress she had designed for Barack Obama’s inaugural ball next month.
Oprah says she now weighs 200 pounds, and she’s pissed at her fat self for letting it happen. She tells the AP,
I’m mad at myself, I’m embarrassed. I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, `How did I let this happen again?’
Well maybe you shouldn’t have eaten just one more…
Details magazine has listed Tom Cruise as the 7th most influential man under 47. Somehow though, he managed to snag the cover spot. The magazine says about Tom,
There’s always something sinister lurking behind his sunny demeanor, absurd good looks, and, most of all, his aggressive sincerity. But there’s no denying he’s the most quintessentially all-American movie star since John Wayne.
The sinister part? Yeah, that’s the devil trying to make its way out of Tom’s eyes. Stay far away from that man if you value your life.
In other Tom Cruise news, our favorite evil influential man recently spoke with UK’s Mirror to give a little more personal info on who else? But himself! In it, he says that he and Katie will probably have more kids when she finishes her stint on Broadway, he wants Suri to get used to all the paparazzi attention and just see it as a normal part of life, and he’s kind of regretting that Oprah couch jumping incident. Really? Cause I thought that was sooo cool!
Wildfires have destroyed a number of buildings in the Montecito area today, and sadly, Doc Brown’s home was one of them. Splash News is reporting that Christopher Lloyd’s primary residence has been destroyed in the blaze. Lloyd also owns another home in Montecito that is still undamaged.
Oprah Winfrey and Rob Lowe both also have homes less than a mile from the fire, but both are reporting that their houses are still standing.
In all seriousness, we’re very sorry for Christopher Lloyd’s loss (and for everyone else who also lost their homes in the blaze). We hope that everyone is safe.
